A 4 Year Hiatus

I’d say 4 years is a long enough hiatus. That’s when I wrote my last post. Ironically, it was about race relations, law enforcement, and mental illness. My how far we haven’t come.

Anyway, I’m not sure why it took so long to realize that I should combine my old blog, The EveryDad (which I started to document my life as a new dad over 8 year ago), with my woodworking brand, Grain & Gauge. But that’s what I’ve decided to do with this here fancy new website.

The official Grain & Gauge logo…duh

Since I started Grain & Gauge, I’ve always wrestled with the idea of work and family separation as it pertains to marketing and social media. Many “experts” suggest the two should remain distant. The rationale being that people follow you because they like your work and don’t want to be bombarded with family stories and baby pictures. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized what terrible advice this is. My family life informs my work and vice versa. So much so that my two boys have their own “shop” setup inside my shop and the oldest often tells me he wants to go woodwork in lieu of playing outside. My work and my family can’t be separated and I’m ok with that.

So I’m combining them. The aim is to write about both my family and our strange but hopefully relatable happenings as well as woodworking topics, sports and other things that happen to pique the interest of my average dad-brain. I’ve also incorporated a virtual storefront for anyone so inclined to peruse the builds I’ve already completed. This page could be used for those seeking custom furniture, looking for inspiration for a totally new build or a slight customization to something I’ve already created. In any case, I’d love to hear from anyone interested in having a custom piece built.

All that to say welcome back. It means a great deal to me that you’re here, reading my ramblings. So take a look around and let me know what you think. And I’d really appreciate if you could share the site and these posts with your people, especially if those people are interior designers, someone looking for some custom furniture or art pieces, your favorite celebrity or a billionaire.

Spread the love
